The Middlesex wrestling team traveled to Milton on a damp Friday evening for their traditional season-opening fixture. Though shorthanded on the night, the Zebras battled the Mustangs to a close 36-42 result, picking up a number of impressive individual victories along the way.Â
After sophomore Katherine Deng won by forfeit at 113, senior co-captain Maya Dougé battled back to secure a come-from-behind win by fall in the waning seconds of the first period. Junior Kimberly Guzman Flores made it three victories in a row with perhaps the most impressive win of the night, a lightning-quick pin secured by a headlock within the first fifteen seconds of the match. Sophomore Caleb Mitchell also impressed with a first period win by fall, showcasing his strength and the hard-nosed physical style that has made him such a tough opponent. Sophomore Harper Edwards picked up a win by fall in an exhibition match at 175, hitting a quick knee pick for a takedown and securing the pin with a power half.
Middlesex next faces Tabor at home in a midweek showdown of ISL opponents.
