Girls' Varsity Soccer Ties Brooks 2-2

10/11/2023 5:24:00 AM

After hosting our Admissions Open House, the Zebras of Middlesex were fired up to take on Brooks School on Chapel Field. Brooks came in winning 4 of their opening 5 games, and only giving up goals in their most recent contest against Thayer. Middlesex was determined to start the game on a positive note after the midweek scoreless draw. Offensive challenges continued to plaque MX as they created some great chances, but were unable to cash them in. Halftime arrived with no goals for either team.

The second half would prove to be the more entertaining stanza of the game. The game picked up pace, with high level action all over the field. Halfway through the half, a Brooks player raced past the Middlesex defense and deposited the ball into the net for the first goal of the game. Not to be outdone, Middlesex quickly got the ball up the right side, and Ashwini Menon '25 curved in an incredible left-footed effort from just outside the box to knot the score at 1. As the clock closed in on the 10-minute mark, Ally Haines '24 headed a free kick onto the foot of Maya Lloyd '25, who dribbled through two defenders and calmly shot the ball past the Brooks GK to give MX the lead, 2-1. Now it was Brooks who came back with a response, finding an opening at the top of the box and ripping a shot just inside the left post to tie the game back up at 2. A couple last ditch efforts by Middlesex couldn't find the net, and the final score ended: Middlesex 2, Brooks 2. A very entertaining half of soccer from both teams!

Middlesex continues working through its league competition, as they welcome Governor's to Chapel Field on Wednesday (please note the location change). Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm.
