The Middlesex Girls' Soccer team opened their 2022 ISL campaign by welcoming St. Mark's to Concord for a rare Friday night game. Due to the previous day's rain, the game was moved to Kravis Field, and the field was lined with many MX students dressed in a "red-out" when the teams kicked off under the lights. Middlesex established some solid possession early on, and connected some nice passes to each other all over the field. Twenty minutes in, Julia Blum '25 took control of the ball after a scrum just outside the penalty box and fired a rocket into the net to open the scoring. Middlesex maintained good possession through the remainder of the half, arriving at half time leading 1-0.
The second half saw more of a 50-50 game as St. Mark's extended their defensive pressure, and created some quality chances of their own. Grace Bishop '24 was up to the task in the Middlesex goal, keeping the Lions off the scoreboard as the clock continued to wind down. With about twenty minutes remaining, Abby Murphy '23 served a free kick into the box that Ally Haines '24 settled and deposited into the net for the final 2-0 margin. The students stormed the field as the final whistle blew on what can only be described as a solid team win.
MXGVS takes to the road again next week when they travel down to Marion to face Tabor Academy.Â
