The Middlesex Girls' Cross Country team had a great day against Governor's Academy, taking seven of the top nine spots for a decisive win. The team worked beautifully together, demonstrating grit and composure over a hilly and unfamiliar course at Roxbury Latin. Junior Sadie Millet again led the charge for Middlesex, taking the lead from the gun and securing first place. Angela Huffer and Cassidy Bruno ran together to place third and fourth for Middlesex, and Anika Ata (6th), Mitchell Ladd (7th), Katie Tantillo (8th), and Catherine Bain (9th) followed not far behind to complete the varsity seven.
Ella Coffin, running what was very much a varsity performance, scored the first JV points for Middlesex, crossing the line in 12th just ahead of Governor's fifth varsity runner. Maggie Cabot followed next in 14th, running her first cross country race for Middlesex after just one week of practicing with the team. Florence Morlock (16th), Sawyer Rogers (17th), Brooke Smith (20th), Olessia Zhevago (22nd), and EJ Hemingway (24th) also contributed to the JV win for Middlesex. Gaby Alonso, Jacquelyn Gao, and Katie Chen also ran gutsy races in their first time covering the 3.1 mile distance. After a successful day, the team looks forward to racing Lawrence, Rivers, and Nobles on the Nobles home course next Saturday.
