On a windy day on the Concord River, Middlesex hosted BB&N in challenging conditions. Given the gusting head winds, rolling water, and occasional white caps, all the crews put together solid races. The race order was 1V, 4V, 3V, 2V to accommodate a BB&N hot seat. The first and fourth boats rowed in the toughest conditions of the day, especially in the final 500 meters. The first boat edged away from BB&N early and maintained a healthy lead across the finish line. The 2V stroke jumped his seat on the start but recovered quickly, and the race was a close battle from start to finish. BB&N and Middlesex went stroke for stroke down the course, with neither crew giving an inch, until the final 300 meters, when BB&N caught a small crab and lost seats to Middlesex. Middlesex capitalized on the moment and made a move, crossing the line ahead of BB&N. Both the Middlesex 3V and 4V were in adjusted lineups due to illness, but despite the difficult conditions and never having rowed together, both boats rowed clean races and should be proud of their efforts. MX takes a break from racing until our final regular season contest at Pomfret on May 21. The boats look forward to training hard and gaining speed in the weeks leading up to New England's.Â
