Middlesex Varsity Crew traveled to Connecticut to race Pomfret and Hopkins on Quasset Lake. The water was flat and calm, with little wind to provide relief from the heat, but the Middlesex crews remained composed and brought home a sweep. In the 4V, Middlesex jumped ahead by a few seats off the start, and they had to battle through the 750m before gaining open water on the rest of the field. The 3V came off the line strong and pulled quickly ahead of Pomfret and Hopkins. Middlesex held a comfortable lead until the last 300 meters, when a rower's seat came off the tracks, forcing him to finish the race rowing by only hands and body. The crew lost significant ground to Hopkins but still managed to hold off the challenge. The 2V also pushed ahead to an early lead, though Hopkins held contact until about the 900m, when Middlesex was able to put open water between them. In the 1V race, Middlesex took the lead early and continued to extend it, finishing with several lengths of open water. Despite the warm temperatures, it was a great day on the water for Middlesex crew, as both the boys' and girls' programs swept!
