After multiple difficult losses, Middlesex traveled to North Andover to face Brooks School. The team was hungry for a win.
Doubles play began and Middlesex dropped 3 quick games at #3, but #1 and #2 got off to close starts. At #2, Henry Brown '22 and Julian Dai '22 went up 3-2, and proceeded to win 5 straight games to close out an 8-2 victory. The #3 team of Lincoln Graham '23 and Hudson Hinckley '25 slowly battled back from a 0-7 start, but ultimately fell 2-8. With all eyes on the #1 match, duo Stone Shen '22 and Ryan Noble '23 battled back and forth before dropping the match 5-8. Brooks secured the doubles point, but Middlesex felt confident as singles got underway.
Middlesex quickly went up a set at the #2, #3, #4, and #5 positions, while Stone Shen '22 dropped the first set 0-6 at #1. Julian Dai '22 rolled to a straight set victory, bringing the match to 1-1. After a difficult first set, Shen '22 battled back to bring his second set to a 5-5 tie, before falling in a 7-point tiebreaker. At #3, #4, and #5, Brooks battled back in the second sets after handed victories by Middlesex in the first.Â
However, after a season of many close losses in tiebreakers, Middlesex came out victorious, securing victories at #2-#6 singles. A 5-2 victory gave the team much to celebrate.Â
Middlesex will host Governor's Academy next Wednesday, in the penultimate match of the season.Â
