Girls’ Cross Country Sweeps Quad Meet against Nobles, Rivers, and Lawrence

10/3/2022 11:49:00 AM

The Girls' Cross Country team continued to build momentum on Saturday at Nobles in their first quad meet of the season. Middlesex impressed with a dominant win against Rivers, Lawrence, and Nobles, taking seven of the top nine spots in a field of 57 athletes. Junior Sadie Millett ran her best race of the season yet, taking the lead from the gun and breezing to an easy win, one minute and 12 seconds ahead of the field. Freshman Cassidy Bruno and junior Mitchell Ladd also clocked standout performances, crossing the line in 2nd and 3rd place behind Millett. The number one runners from Nobles and Rivers followed next, taking 4th and 5th respectively, followed closely by a sea of Middlesex runners storming down the final stretch: freshman Stella Curwin-Amfitheatrof took 6th for Middlesex, sophomore Catherine Bain 7th, freshman Anika Ata 8th, and freshman Katie Tantillo 9th. This young team has focused on building a foundation for future success, but they worked together and executed their race plans on a tough Nobles course with the confidence of seasoned cross country veterans.

Junior Kate McBride, coming off multiple early season obstacles that recently included a bout of Covid, led the Middlesex JV pack with a 15th place finish. She worked closely throughout the race with junior Ella Coffin (19th) and junior Florence Morlock (33rd). Sophomore Maggie Cabot (23rd) and junior Sawyer Rogers (24th) also ran their best races of the season to score JV points for Middlesex. The team celebrated several personal best times on Saturday, including those by junior Olessia Zhevago, senior Ellie Ragosa, sophomore EJ Hemingway, sophomore Jacquelyn Gao, freshman Katie Chen, and sophomore Gaby Alonso. Seniors Jade Xiao and Charlotte Wolford also ran strong races, both making their 2022 debuts.

The team looks forward to taking on Brooks, St. Mark's, and St. George's in a quad meet at the Brooks home course next Saturday.
