Middlesex and St. Sebastian's battled toe-to-toe in a great contest fit for a Family Weekend celebration. The weather was idyllic fall New England, and the competitiveness and sportsmanship were ideal as well. For St. Sebastian's, they worked around the left flank to get the ball to freshman Griffin Collins' feet, as he looked to find his target Jack Mulka to get on to the end of the balls served into the box. Defenders Aidan O'Sullivan, Zach Miles, and Quinn Falvey did a great job of negating these opportunities and limiting Seb's chances while keeping shots off target in the first half. The best chances of the first half fell to Jonah Zaas and Yared McDonald for Middlesex, who both had uncontested looks from close to goal sail wide of and over the bar. The second half was more of an even contest, though Middlesex missed two more tap-ins from close range that they would rue later. The deadlock was broken in the 78
th minute when Yared McDonald laced a set piece around the Seb's wall and past the keeper for the 1-0 lead from 25 yards out. As the clock dwindled and went past the 90-minute mark Seb's took advantage of a man-up situation to serve a long ball from the right flank that found Alex Perkin at the back post to nod down and into the Middlesex goal for the 1-1 draw. Both teams should be commended for great spirit and team play. Seb's showed heart in battling to the end and Middlesex can only regret the point-blank chances that could have altered the narrative. In the end, a share of the points honors the efforts of two solid ISL squads.Â
