An entertaining, back and forth midweek battle between Middlesex and Belmont Hill ended in a 1-1 draw.  Belmont Hill was the aggressor for the first phase of the game as they pumped long balls forward to apply pressure on the Middlesex backline but failed to create any clear-cut chances. Middlesex battled the long ball aerial style of Belmont Hill with controlled play and passing, which paid off in the 14
th minute. Aidan Falvey received a ball to feet in the middle of the park and ran at the retreating Belmont Hill backline. Falvey then slipped a ball on to Yared McDonald's foot as he cut his run inside of the outside back and took a settled touch before hammering the ball past the keeper at the near post. The rest of the half saw back and forth play but no threatening chances for either side. After the half ended with a 1-0 lead to Middlesex, Belmont Hill continued to hoof the ball into the opposition half and play for set pieces and mistakes. Just about three minutes into the second half, Belmont Hill capitalized on one of those set pieces, as Will Lloyd found the back of the net off of his head to tie the score at 1-1. Middlesex continued to weather the flurry of long balls for the rest of the second half until keeper Aidan George came off of his line for a late challenge just outside of the box with contact on the onrushing forward. The official brandished a straight red card for the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity and Middlesex had to play with ten men for the remaining fourteen minutes. George Leness filled in admirably and tipped a dipping ball over the bar for a corner, while Aidan O'Sullivan and Sinjin Doelitzsch chipped in with some timely blocks and clearances off the goal line. Bear Tibbitt stood out for Middlesex by reading play exceptionally well and cycling the distribution of the ball with composure and skill. The injuries had piled up for Middlesex on the day, but they made it to the final whistle after playing shorthanded and took the point away with them on the road.Â
