It was a perfect autumn day as Middlesex's Girls Varsity Soccer team took the pitch against Governor's. MX entered the game at 3-5, needing a win to start the climb back into the positive. For most of the first half, the two teams were evenly matched, sharing possession mostly evenly and each making unsuccessful pushes at each other's defenses. Keeper Ella Labib '24 demonstrated her abilities repeatedly as she punched, snagged, and covered the ball from attackers. With under 2 minutes left in the first half, freshman Avery Green, who had only entered the game 9 minutes prior, lofted the ball over the opposing keeper to put the home Zebras up 1-0 to close the half.

Midway through the second half, a Govs player put the ball past Labib to even the score, but for the most part, the match was just as even as it had been in the first half. Until, that is, another crunch time goal was delivered by Ally Haines '24, tapping the ball in off of a wonderful cross. Though the visitors made a valiant effort to answer, there was not enough time to create an opportunity against MX's strong defensive set and the home team came out on top.

Now 4-5, MXGVS looks to even their record on Friday, October 14, as they take on Groton.
