Girls' Cross Country Victorious at Nobles

9/27/2021 10:51:00 AM

Middlesex had a great day of cross country racing on the beautiful campus on Noble and Greenough.  Facing a challenging and unfamiliar course, the nineteen runners who made the trip were resilient, working together beautifully throughout the 5K course for a decisive team win over perennial powerhouse Nobles, besting the host team for the first time in a decade.  All-star manager senior Linda Qin made her first away race with manager's duties look easy, handling all details that emerged quickly and efficiently.

The team was again led by sophomore Sadie Millett who finished the race in second place overall, just behind the Nobles first runner.  She was followed closely by seniors Grace Millett (3rd), Mariam Craig (4th), Annabelle Rogers (5th), and Josie Silk (6th) who secured the team score and win. Sophomores Kate McBride (7th) and Florence Morlock (10th) finished well within the Nobles pack, earning displacement points to help the varsity team score.  In the JV race-within-a-race, Middlesex was led by sophomore Lilli Boeser, who finished in 11th place overall and earned the top spot in the JV scoring.  Teammates sophomore Mitchell Ladd (15th) and senior Abigail Riordan (17th) also finished ahead of the Nobles first JV runner to secure the team win with the 1-2-3 finish in the contest of the second sevens.  The JV team score was further helped by freshman Sophia Yang (22nd) and senior Emma Caffrey (23rd) with junior Jade Xiao (24th) and senior Neha Kommineni (25th) earning displacement points for the Nobles 5th JV.   Junior Megan Shi ran a PR on a tough course despite taking a tumble on the course walk, and freshman Lucy Wang had a huge improvement over her performance last week.   There was much to be proud of on all counts, and the team is thrilled to be heading into the third week of racing with this experience to build upon.
