The Middlesex Girls' Soccer team opened the 2021 campaign with a trip down to Pomfret for a non-league tilt on a hot September day. The long bus ride did not deter the girls from playing a high-level possession game, which resulted in a resounding 5-0 win.Â
The first half opened with both teams battling to gain possession and set the tone early on, before Hannah Barron '22 opened her scoring account with a solid shot from just inside the box in the 16th minute. The Zebras continued to pressure Pomfret's back line, and Taryn Gillis pumped in two goals to push the lead to three heading into half time.Â
MXGVS continued to apply offensive pressure to open the second stanza, and Pomfret's goalkeeper played well to keep the ball out of her net. In the 67th minute, Mia Williams '23 scored her first goal of the season, with Julia Blum '25 closing the ledger a couple minutes later. It capped a great team performance, with every player seeing the field.Â
Annabel Austen '22 posted a clean sheet, with great support from the defensive line, directed greatly by Charley DiAdamo '23 and Abby Murphy '23.Â
Non-league action continues Wednesday, as we host Phillips Andover on Chapel Field. Kick off is scheduled for 3:30.Â
