Middlesex Girls' Varsity Lacrosse welcomed Groton to their home turf Saturday afternoon for a battle of the Zebras. For six minutes, both defensive units were solid, shutting down shots at either end. Groton opened up the scoring, but Middlesex answered less than two minutes later to even the score at 1-1. For the remainder of the game, the goal differential was only one in Middlesex's favor, with the exception of a Groton lead of 4-3 early in the third quarter. Former middle school buddies Ezzy Coes and Abby Pratt would both earn clutch goals to once again give Middlesex a one goal lead 5-4. Groton continued to answer Middlesex's goals, but Coes struck again thanks to a feed from her freshman teammate Siena Berardinelli for the game winner with 1:15 remaining. Seniors Sophia "Pop" Poplyk, Olivia "OC" Clark, and Isabelle "Izzy" Allieri were tremendous in the defensive end, goalie Syd Cogliano notched six saves on the day, and Hannah "HB" Barron cleaned up on all defensive stats and was a difference maker in the midfield. The team will prepare for their first series of back-to-back games against Milton this weekend.
