Girls' Varsity Soccer Tops Brooks Under the Lights

10/9/2021 11:41:00 AM

It was Friday Night Lights at Chapel Field as the Middlesex Girls' Soccer team hosted Brooks for a primetime ISL clash. This was also a Coaches vs. Cancer game, a cause the team rallied around to help raise cancer awareness. We are grateful for all of the support that was generated!

The excitement of the night was evident from the opening kickoff, with both teams playing hard in front of a packed crowd. Play went back and forth for the opening portion of the half before Middlesex cashed in an offensive opportunity for the game's only goal. Some nice connections between Ally Haines '24 and Mack Feeney '24 led Hannah Barron '22 to goal, where she finished it off with a nice shot inside the box. Both teams continued to battle hard until the halftime whistle sounded, with Middlesex maintaining its one goal lead.

Brooks responded well over the course of the second half, creating many opportunities that challenged Middlesex's back line. However, the defensive core consisting of Charley DiAdamo '23, Ella Matteucci '22, Piper Morris '24, Abby Murphy '23, along with Shira Waxman '23 and Jane Barton '23 kept the Brooks offense at bay. Goalkeeper Annabel Austen '22 posted her second clean sheet of the season, coming up with some big saves to keep Brooks off the scoreboard. The crowd rushed the field in wild support of the team, capping off an extraordinary evening.

The Zebras continue their league slate as they travel up to Byfield next Wednesday to take on Governor's Academy. Kick off is scheduled for 2:30.
