Middlesex Loses to Rivers, 3-1

10/27/2021 6:53:00 PM

Middlesex's Boys' Varsity Soccer team traveled to Weston on Wednesday to play Rivers and came away with a disappointing 3-1 defeat.  The loss was the first in seven matches against Rivers, stretching back to 2015.  Middlesex was unlucky not to score two goals in the opening 15 minutes but were the recipients of a counterattacking lesson to go down 1-0.  It was soon 2-0 on a shot from distance with slow defensive pressure on the ball.  The score was drawn closer in the first half when Yared McDonald found George Lin on the back post for a tidy finish from a set piece.  The score remained 2-1 to Rivers at the halftime interval and Middlesex gained control of the game in the first 20 minutes of the second half but could not capitalize on the several chances created.  Rivers scored another counterattack goal late in the game for the 3-1 final tally.  It was disappointing to concede three goals for the first time in the season and to squander so many strong chances to score, but the Zebras competed with great effort and took the loss with grace and a display of positive character.  George Lin, Sky Platt, and Aidan George stood out for Middlesex in the back line and Sinjin Doelitzsch's work ethic was exceptional in the attack.
