On a perfect autumn day for cross country, the Middlesex Girls' Cross Country team had another successful day, posting two varsity wins at home on a day that the runners dedicated to unity and claiming their voice. The girls' race was won by the first runner from Thayer who led from the front in a gutsy effort, for which she was rewarded with a course record in the process of claiming the victory. For Middlesex, the varsity effort was again led by sophomore Sadie Millett, who (again) finished in 2nd place, this time after outsprinting the Thayer second runner to the line. She was followed not far behind by senior Annabelle Rogers in 4th place. Seniors Josie Silk, Grace Millett, and Mariam Craig came in close together in 5th, 6th, and 7th places, with sophomores Kate McBride and Florence Morlock securing the varsity win with displacement points over Thayer and finishing ahead of the first Rivers runner in 8th and 9th
Though the first seven came out on top, the Thayer second seven was a force to be reckoned with, as Thayer had a dense and fast pack between their 3rd and 14th runners. Senior Sophia Bueno ran with characteristic steadiness and composure to lead the Middlesex second seven, finishing in 24th, ahead of many of the varsity scorers for Rivers. The Middlesex JV effort was furthered by freshmen Sophia Yang and Catherine Bain (27th and 28th), senior Jenny Phan (30th), and junior Jade Xiao (32nd). Seniors Emma Caffrey and Neha Kommineni worked together to round out the JV seven in 34th and 35th.
It was a fast day on our home course, with many runners posting best times for the course, and some even earning PR's despite the technical nature of trails. The entire team, including those unable to race, contributed to the home race hosting effort. The team is proud to have an undefeated varsity record heading into the final week of the regular season.
