Middlesex Girls' Cross Country continued their winning season on a beautiful afternoon for cross country, finishing eight runners in the top eleven in the dual meet against our traditional rival, the other Zebras of Groton. The race was won by the Groton first runner, who took advantage of the downhill first mile to get out to a quick lead that she held throughout the race despite strong charges in the last half mile from Middlesex sophomore Sadie Millett (2nd) and senior Annabelle Rogers (3rd). The strength of the Middlesex pack was on display, as Middlesex took the next three places as well, with senior Josie Silk, senior Mariam Craig, and senior Grace Millett finishing close together in 4th, 5th, and 6th place to secure the team score. Sophomore Kate McBride was 8th, not far behind the Groton second runner, and sophomores Florence Morlock and Mitchell Ladd finished in 10th and 11th, ahead of a strong pack of Groton runners.
With Mitchell's 11th place finish, she was the first finisher in the JV scoring. The team win for Middlesex in the second seven contest was secured by the pack of seniors Sophia Bueno (17th/3rd in JV scoring), Abigail Riordan (18th/4th in JV scoring), junior Jade Xiao (19th/5th in JV scoring), and junior Megan Shi (20th/6th in JV scoring). Senior Jenny Phan (24th/10th in JV scoring) scored displacement points for Middlesex, and senior Charlotte Bain rounded out the Middlesex second seven. The team is happy to be taking a break over the long weekend before reconvening for the final two regular season races, both of which we will host on our own home course.
