Middlesex Girls' Cross Country improved their record to 7-0 on a beautiful fall day at the flat and fast Tabor course at Washburn park. The race was the most competitive and most exciting of the season thus far, and the Zebras were proud to end up on the winning side of a close race with a strong Milton team. Middlesex also took home victories against host Tabor and St. Mark's. Teamwork and pack running again made the difference for Middlesex.Â
Milton got off to a quick start in the team scoring, taking both first and second places in the quad meet with their top two runners who ran largely unopposed throughout the 5K course. The Milton duo were followed by the top runner from Tabor. The Middlesex pack, led for the fourth time in as many weeks by sophomore Sadie Millett in 4th place, took 7 of the next 9 spots to secure the team wins over all opponents. Senior Annabelle Rogers ran the best race of her four year career to finish in 5th place, ahead of the first runner from St. Mark's. Seniors Grace Millett and Josie Silk were 7th and 8th, securing the team win as they were ahead of the 3rd scoring runner from Milton. Sophomores Kate McBride and Florence Morlock were 10th and 11th, with senior Mariam Craig in 12th. Â
Sophomore Mitchell Ladd was not far behind her teammates to finish in 16th, well within the varsity packs for the other schools. As our eighth finisher, she won the JV race within a race, leading the Middlesex second seven to two strong victories over Milton and St. Mark's. (Host Tabor did not have enough runners to field a JV team.) Freshman Sophia Yang and senior Abigail Riordan finished ahead of the second JV runner from Milton, with senior Sophia Bueno and junior Jade Xiao finishing inside the scoring pack as well. Freshman Catherine Bain and junior Megan Shi rounded out the second seven and earned key displacement points with their finishes. Additionally, we were delighted to see freshmen Mila Chow and Andrea Flores finish their first races of the season!  The team is looking forward to a short week of training before facing off with the other zebras of Groton next Friday before a much needed long weekend.
