Middlesex traveled to Brooks on Wednesday afternoon and won a hard-fought contest 4-3, the result coming down to the final matches on court. At #2, senior Averill Emery lead off for the Zebras, using good length and opportune drops to win her match in 3 games. At #4, senior Dahlia Galante also used good length and clever serving to win her match. Junior Zoe Beede lost a hard fought match at #6, leaving the score MX 2 and Brooks 1 after the first round. The Brooks #1 powered her way to victory and the score was 2 to 2, but shortly thereafter junior Amelia Stevens won her match 3-0 at #3. MX 3- Brooks 2, with two matches left to finish. At #5 sophomore Marissa Fadely split her first two games, as did freshman Mia Peng at 7. MX needed to prevail in one of these matches to win. Marissa came through with strong serving and returning and excellent court coverage to win her match 3-1, while Mia's opponent hit some remarkable length and drop shots, so Brooks triumphed 3-1 at #7. The win at #5 secured MX the victory in a very close fought match where one game ended 17-15 and another 19-17.Â
