The Middlesex Wrestling team traveled to Governor's Academy to take BB&N and Governor's in a tri-meet Saturday, January 11th. The team split on the day, winning against BB&N by a score of 50-21 and falling to Governor's 63-18.
The team was outstanding in the first match with early forfeits earned by Senior Captain Alene Fernandes and Daniel Okyere. Ben Doty wrestled a tough opponent at 126 lbs giving up the first period fall but continues to shine as the new lighter weights gain experience. The next match showed a glimpse of future talent at 132 lbs with Chester Boynton totaling 11 point in a major decision to add 4 team points to the team score. His tenacity and improvement was great to see. Sophomore Love Daley continues to impress with her athleticism and speed. She overcame an early take-down in the first period to gather a reversal and take-down to a pin of her own and secure 6 team points. Junior captain Connor Cross returned to good form after being sidelined with an early season injury to win by major decision, 11-0. Alex Pittelli continues to improve, showing strength and balance. He matched up with the more experienced BB&N wrestler and took a tough defeat, although did gain two escapes in the process. The wrestler of the day went to Jojo Nwosu. who excelled in all facets of the match. With his improved conditioning coming back after the break, he was able to convincingly take-down his opponent and secure the pin for the 6 team points. His consistency and improvement has really begun to reflect a strong practice work ethic and determination to excel.
At 182 pounds, Pranav Natarajan took to the mat with great concentration and an improved stance. After a scoreless first period, he was caught on the tough end of clean take-down and his opponent managed to ride out the entire period. After an escape by Pranav in the final period, no further points were earned and the match ended in a tough but close loss and decision 3-1. Forfeits were claimed by Cam Fries and Axel Romell at 197 and 220 pounds. Finally Nick DeBruin finished the match off with solid win at Heavyweight. A first period take-down and pin finished the team scoring with a final score of Middlesex 50, BB&N 21.
