All good things come to an end at some point as a number of streaks ended for the Middlesex Boys' Soccer team. It was a game of two halves and of strength in numbers, as Middlesex took a 1-0 lead and could have had a 3-1 lead at halftime, but Milton rebounded and called upon their 34-man roster to wear down the home team. Just 90 seconds into the match, Kwabena Kwakwa played an inch-perfect through ball on the floor to Anyolo Makatiani, who slotted the finish calmly past the onrushing keeper for the 1-0 Middlesex lead. An injury to right back led to Milton's first goal, as a ball cut in from the left side led to an open finish from the center of the goal for the Milton substitute Nasib McDonald. The half ended tied at 1-1, but only a minute after Makatiani dispossessed a loose touch from the right center back, but his finish was straight at the isolated keeper.Â
In the second half, the spate of recent injuries and fatigue compounded for Middlesex. The breakthrough came 13 minutes into the second half when a loose pass out from the back led to a counterattack and side net finish for Niall Murphy. Another defensive decision led to another preventable goal just four minutes later to put the match out of reach. Credit goes to Milton for continuing to high pressure and seek more goals to the final whistle. They were rewarded for their hard work in the 89
th minute with a simple finish after one of many saves from the clear Man-of-the Match, Alfonso DeVito.Â
As the final whistle went after three minutes of additional time, Milton celebrated the first defeat for Middlesex in 35 ISL matches, and the first home loss for Middlesex for over three years (since September 10, 2016). It was an intensely competitive match and Milton were deserving winners and worthy of ending such epic streaks.
