The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team lost its match against Groton Saturday 9 - 6 in a competitive contest that went down to doubles to be determined. Fortunately, the rain stopped early enough for the courts to dry and the match to be played outdoors.Â
Senior captain Maud McCole led the Zebras in the singles lineup. All singles points were secured by underclassmen: Neha Kommineni '22 at #2, Marissa Fadely '22 at #3, and Jessica Andrews '21 at #5. The overall score was tied going into doubles. Despite putting in their best effort in closely-fought points, games, and matches, Middlesex was not able to overpower their formidable opponents. Despite the loss, our players felt good about the way they played; indeed, it was some of the best tennis we have seen this season.Â
The team will rest over the weekend and look forward to two practices before traveling to Pomfret Wednesday. Heading into the final stretch of the season, the Zebras boast a winning record of 7 - 3.Â
