The Middlesex baseball team scored nine runs over the final three innings to overcome a 4-2 deficit and secure an 11-7 win over Governor's on Wednesday.
The Zebras plated two runs in the top of the first on a walk, HBP, single, wild pitch and an error but Governor's responded with four runs in the bottom half to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman pitcher Danny Collins came out of the bullpen to throw three scoreless innings and keep Middlesex in the game. Collins allowed just one hit and struck out 5.
Middlesex scored four runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Eoin Morrissey '22, a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Kyle Heath '21 and RBI hits from Kyle Wolff '22 and Kevin Campbell '20. The Zebras added to the lead on a three run homer off the bat of Cole Cleary '20, his third of the season, in the top of the sixth but Gov's responded with their own three run homer in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 9-7. Middlesex got two runs back in the top of the 7th on an error and an RBI double from Marc Portlock '20.
Wolff led the Middlesex offense with three hits, while Portlock chipped in two. Collins got the win on the mound, the first of his career, and Wolff struck out 7 in three innings of relief to record his second save.
Middlesex will wrap up their 2019 season when they travel to St. George's on Saturday at 2:00.
