The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team won its out-of-league match against Dexter-Southfield 4 - 1 Wednesday afternoon. D-S hosted and their courts are indoors.
Freshman Neha Kommineni led the Middlesex singles lineup at #1. Her debut in the position went well. Down at one point early in the first set, she made smart adjustments to her opponent and came back to win both sets and the match 6 - 2, 6 - 1. Marissa Fadely '22 crushed her opponent at #2 singles with a double bagel score. Katy Qin '21 had a back and forth battle at #3 singles: her opponent won the first set 1 - 6, Katy came back to take the second set 7 - 5 after long points and long games going back to deuce many times with ad scoring. Winning the second set pushed her match into a super tiebreaker for the win. Katy put up a commendable fight in the grueling battle for the W but ultimately dropped the match in a nail-biter contest.
Our doubles teams played steady, impressive matches and won both points for the Zebras. Senior captain Maud McCole and junior Averill Emery won their match with a double bagel score. Jessie Andrews '21 and Margaret Rand '19 worked to minimize their own errors and took both sets 6 -1, 6 - 0, clinching the match.
The squad will put in two focused practices before facing Groton Saturday.
