The Zebras traveled to Deerfield to face a competitive non-league opponent. With smaller numbers than usual, Middlesex had to adjust and conserve energy in the midfield. Deerfield took a two goal lead quickly when they executed on a two minute man-up early in the game. When the numbers evened, Hannah Barron put Middlesex on the board with a free position goal. Deerfield gained possession on the draw on several occasions, creating scoring opportunities, but Alex Fehnel, Hayden Monahan, and Ham Simmons combined for two more goals. Still the Zebras fell to a 10-3 deficit at halftime. While Deerfield came out with two more goals in the second half, the Zebras refused to let up. Sydney MacKeigan won key draw controls and freshman duo Barron and Abby Pratt connected to notch the first goal of the half. Deerfield was able to answer with two more man-up goals, but the relentless Middlesex crew continued to compete. The Zebras went on a four goal scoring streak that started with gritty defensive plays by Brooke Nye, Daisy Boynton, and Carly Tilson. Midfielder Olivia Clark unselfishly stepped into the cage today with only two days of training under her belt and made 7 saves and she was 100% on successful defensive clears. The team will look to reunite on Monday and get ready for the first league matchup on Wednesday.
