The Middlesex School Girls' Varsity Tennis team dropped its first match this season Saturday afternoon 3 - 12 in its best performance against the Bulldogs since the spring of 2015. Match conditions were ideal with temperatures in the 60s and sunny skies overhead.
The scoreboard truly does not show how competitively each match was played from top to bottom -- our squad was determined to play good points by aggressively implementing strategy. Led by senior captain Maud McCole at #1 singles, points were captured by Averill Emery '20 at #4 in the first set and by Marissa Fadely '22 and Neha Kommineni '22 at #2 and #3 singles in the second set. Fadely's match was a battle that lasted 2 hours and kept spectators on the edge of their seats! After dropping the first set, she started out ahead in the second. She struggled to maintain the lead, and her opponent pushed the set into a tiebreaker. Fadely practiced good mental toughness to outhit the Nobles player and capture the point for her team. Our doubles pairings represented their school well and played competitive matches but did not manage to score.Â
After a restful holiday weekend, the Zebras will pick up their training again on Tuesday before hosting Milton on Wednesday.Â
