The Middlesex Girls' Soccer team hosted St. George's for the final competition of the 2019 season, on Chapel Field. As was true throughout the fall season, weather conditions were ideal for an early November afternoon, cool but sunny.
 
Fielding a lineup with all seven seniors included, Middlesex got off to a great start, playing on the front foot, moving the ball confidently, and creating a number of scoring chances right away. Unfortunately, none of these attempts made it over the goal line, and once the game settled in, St. George's was able to create some opportunities of their own on the counter-attack. Both goalkeepers were equal to task, and the halftime whistle blew with the score still knotted at 0.
 
The scoring line changed quickly after the second half opened, as Middlesex again pressed forward, and they were soon rewarded for their efforts. Middlesex took possession of a loose ball in St. George's end, and Carly Tilson '20 expertly played a ball through to Taryn Gillis '22, who dribbled past two defenders before ripping a shot to the near post side of the goal.
 
The Zebras continued to mount the offensive pressure, and doubled up their lead seven minutes later. Off a corner kick, Tilson headed the ball to the goal mouth, and as the ball bounced loose, Izzy Moore '20 scored her first goal of the season hammering it home on the far post.
 
Middlesex was able to run out the clock, but not without some drama. St. George's earned a penalty box with about 20 minutes remaining in the game, yet GK Ali Joseph '20 was up to the task and saved the PK. Great effort AJ, earning the final shutout! All seven seniors were on the field for pretty much the entire second half of the game.
 
I want to congratulate all of seniors on a fine game, season, and career. You all will be dearly missed!
