Roxbury Latin hosted Middlesex on a sunny and windy Friday afternoon in West Roxbury for a competitive and entertaining late-season match. The first 20 minutes were largely played in the middle third, with neither team creating early chances to go to goal. The deadlock was broken in the 21
st minute as Kwabena Kwakwa slipped Jake Zaas in at the back post for a tidy finish. Middlesex extended the lead to 2-0 eight minutes later as Kwakwa served a ball that Andrew Parker poked home through traffic. Four minutes after that Jack Cloherty finished a penalty kick awarded for a handball in the box to draw RL within a goal. The 2-1 score line held up until halftime, though the game looked like there were more goals in it. That was not to be as Alfonso DeVito came up with two strong saves to secure the lead in front of stout defending by George Lin and Neto Nwogbo. Brasher and McCabe looked the most likely to draw level for RL, but the chances were contested and the second chances were cleared until the final whistle. It was an intensely competitive 90 minutes while both teams upheld the high standards of sportsmanship and quality of play in the league.Â
