Back and Forth Game With Gov’s Ends in 2-2 Draw

10/9/2019 9:53:00 AM

Middlesex Girls' Soccer took to the road to take on Governor's Academy in a midweek ISL tilt.

The first goal of the game came 20 minutes in as Daisy Boynton '20 slid and finished a corner kick to make it 1-0 Middlesex. Governor's continued to apply pressure, and drew a penalty inside the box just under the 30 minute mark. They converted the resulting PK to know the game at 1, where it stood at halftime.

Middlesex came out strong in the second half, created some good scoring chances, and regained the lead  in the early stages of the second stanza. Nico Roark '20 made a great defensive play to create a great run and shot, with Carly Tilson '20 pouncing on the rebound.

Governor's was able to draw another penalty in the box soon after the Middlesex goal, but this time GK Ali Joseph '20 was equal to the task, making a great save to help Middlesex keep the lead. Governor's persisted, and their pressure paid off as a misplayed ball in the midfield led to a long ball run that Governor's cashed in for the tying goal at the 60 minute mark.

Both teams played good competitive soccer down the stretch, but neither team could generate a differentiator, and the final whistle blew with the scoreboard reading 2-2.

Middlesex continues their road trip as they travel to Groton Friday, kicking off at 2pm.
