Middlesex traveled north to Byfield on a Tuesday afternoon for a highly competitive duel that resulted in a 3-1 win for the visitors. Middlesex was prepared to attack from the first whistle, and Anyolo Makatiani opened the scoring within the first 90 seconds as he took a lofted feed from Kwabena Kwakwa off his chest and fired into the far side netting for the early lead. Then the home team was stirred to answer back on 15 minutes as Teddy Donahue jumped on a poor clearance outside of the left corner of the box and teed up a top-class finish from beyond 25 yards that curled just under the top corner of the crossbar to knot the score at one. Within two minutes of the home goal, Middlesex had earned a penalty kick, but Luke Zeller made a heroic diving save to keep the score tied for the next eight minutes. It was Sam Barton who turned the corner on the left flank to find Anyolo Makatiani in the box for a tidy cut back and far post finish. Ten minutes after the restart Andrew Parker earned a second penalty for Middlesex and Kwakwa successfully dispatched the spot kick to go to 3-1. Zeller was called on to charge off of his line to make numerous one v. one saves and was up to the challenge. Makatiani and Parker stood out for Middlesex and Donahue and Zeller were the most effective for Governor's. Overall, it was a competitive match with plenty of transitions and opportunities for both sides.Â
