Girls' Cross Country Splits with Nobles and St. George's on Parents' Weekend

10/29/2019 9:56:00 AM

The Middlesex Girls' Cross Country teams enjoy perfect conditions on a new course for their final regular season race at home in front of a Parents' Weekend crowd.  The team took advantage of the chance to celebrate our seniors, who ran around our course for the last time.  Senior Gabby Walsh took full advantage of this chance, winning the race and setting the course record for the new home course. It seemed particularly appropriate that she succeeded in this feat in her last home race since she had set the course record for the old course three years ago in her first race in a Middlesex uniform.  Her performance was not enough for the team to best Nobles in the team score, however, as visiting Nobles went on to take places 2 through 5.  Junior Grace Hu put together a brave performance for 6th place. The depth of the Nobles pack was on display, as they took 7th and 8th before sophomore Annabelle Rogers finished in 9th place.  The Middlesex pack came through not far behind, with junior Meena Menon, sophomore Josie Silk, junior Jillian Robertson, and sophomore Mariam Craig taking places 13, 14, 15, and 16.  Their strength, teamwork, and toughness secured the team victory over rival St. George's, and proved that they are a force to be reckoned with within ISL girls' cross country.

Our second seven was led by JV race-within-a-race winner senior captain Nina Douge.  Despite valiant efforts and much passing in the last mile, the team came up short to the strength and depth of the Nobles pack.  Still, the squad secured a perfect score against St. George's through the impressive running Nina and senior Maya Sidhu (4th JV, 21st overall), juniors Amelia Stevens (8th/28th), Grace Luettgen (9th, 29th), Megan Ding (19th, 38th), and seniors Phoebe Lu (18th, 39th) and Maanasi Chintamani (21st, 42nd).   The entire team contributed to the successes of the day, with managers, coaches, and helpers playing a particularly important role in the execution of a home race on a new course with a big crowd. We are especially proud of our seven seniors-- Gabby, Alene, Nina, Maya, Phoebe, Maanasi, and Elizabeth-- who not only ran well today but have been terrific leaders and teammates all season long.  We are grateful that their seasons are not over yet!  Our final race as a full squad is next Friday at the ISL championships, graciously hosted by St. Mark's.
