Girls’ Soccer Loses Hard Fought Battle to Rivers, 1-0

10/25/2019 9:44:00 AM

Middlesex Girls' Soccer traveled to Weston for a mid-week tilt with perennial ISL powerhouse Rivers School on an idyllic autumn afternoon. This was Middlesex's first contest on the new turf at West Field.

Rivers came out of the gates aggressively, but Middlesex stemmed the tide and eventually pushed the momentum back at Rivers. The game had a good back-and-forth to it, and although Rivers held a slight territorial edge, the game remained scoreless at half, with goalkeeper Ali Joseph '20 thwarting a number of Rivers scoring chances.

Middlesex took a slight wind advantage into the second half, and they were able to play the game a bit more forward. Good offensive opportunities were created by both teams, and both teams played at a high level throughout the second half. With under ten minutes to play, a Rivers player was left open on a corner kick and struck a bouncing ball to put Rivers ahead, 1-0. Middlesex pushed hard for the equalizer in the final minutes, but it was not meant to be. The girls worked hard all afternoon, and it was tough to come away from a well-played game against a quality opponent without any points.

Middlesex welcomes league leaders Thayer Academy to Chapel Field on this coming Parents' Weekend.
