An excellent matchup of ISL powers ended with a surprise, as Middlesex surrendered a goal to Belmont Hill in the 92
nd minute of play to lose 1-0. The first half was closely contested, as Middlesex controlled the first 35 minutes before Belmont Hill took control of the play for the final ten minutes of the half. George Lin was particularly strong in thwarting the Belmont Hill counterattack with well-read interceptions and solid distribution. Hamza Shemsu and Mateen Nickpour-Reyes were dynamic in dribbling through the midfield, but the quality chances were few for the visitors. Kwabena Kwakwa had the best scoring chance of the first half, but his shot was handled cleanly by James Cahill. As the second half wore on, the chances favored Middlesex though the scoring touch was not on display. Finally, in the 92
nd minute Belmont Hill broke out of their half on the counterattack and a botched clearance attempt recycled to Cole Matthews on the byline to the right edge of the box. Matthews lifted a ball to the back post and just beyond a retreating defender as Charles Richard poked home the match winner from just a few feet out. It was a cruel result for the number of chances created by Middlesex, but proof of the resolve and resilience of the boys from Belmont Hill.Â
