The boys of Middlesex cross-country running continued their winning ways in almost perfect conditions at Groton School, overwhelming the top seven of the northern Zebras 15-45 with a powerful display of depth and determined running, while dropping a close 28-27 result in the junior varsity contest.
Sophomore Copper Austen was the race winner for a second straight week, cruising to the finish in a personal best 16:55. Junior David Latham claimed second place overall in 17:15, while senior co-captain Justin O'Toole, junior Andrew Harris and freshman phenom Matt Wing made it a clean sweep of the top five places for Middlesex, beating out Groton's first finisher on the day. Juniors Cannon Caspar and Zan Danoff, the latter a varsity debutant, rounded out first seven.
Freshman Peter Favero picked up his first victory of the season, winning the JV race within a race in 18:40, just seconds ahead of junior Caleb Krueger. Sophomore Stone Shen, junior Sean McLaughlin, and sophomore Adam Ewing accounted for the rest of the Middlesex scoring, with junior Gavin Cassidy, in a return from injury, and freshman Henry Horvath taking the sixth and seventh spot.
Middlesex looks to continue their stay atop the ISL table this Friday against Rivers, BB&N and Belmont Hill in Burchard Park in Weston.
