The stormy weather that had threatened all week held off, and the Zebras of both Middlesex and Groton took advantage of the dry course and cool temperatures with a well-contested and fast race. The Middlesex team worked together well to secure the team wins for the Zebras of Middlesex, and coaches were impressed with the effort and support each runner offered to her teammates. Middlesex was again led by senior captain Gabby Walsh, who ran her best race of the season so far to finish second in the race, behind a very talented first runner from Groton. She was followed by junior Grace Hu who ran a gutsy race to finish third. The Groton second runner came next in fourth place, leaving the team score tied. However, the next finishers were the rest of the Middlesex first seven in places 5 through 9: sophomore Annabelle Rogers, senior Alene Fernandes, junior Meena Menon, junior Jillian Robertson, and sophomore Josie Silk, thus securing the varsity team win for Middlesex. Our second seven secured the JV win with sophomore Mariam Craig (12th place overall, and again first in the JV race-within-a-race), senior captain Nina Douge (13th), junior Amelia Stevens (17th), junior Grace Luettgen (18th), and senior Maya Sidhu (19th), all of whom finished ahead of the first JV scorer for Groton. Seniors Phoebe Lu (23rd) and Maanasi Chintamani (25th) earned displacement points for the second seven.
Nearly every one of the 29 girls who raced posted a season best (and for many, a personal best) time; the team seemed to build off the excitement of one another's performances, and the result was a very good day for the team. Our always effective managers were particularly on top of their game today, and every member of the team feels satisfied heading into a much-needed and well-earned long weekend. We look forward to gathering again next week to prepare for our final regular season away race at the Rivers homecoming.
