The Fall Long Weekend matchup of Groton and Middlesex brought excitement early and a second half stalemate, but Middlesex had done enough by halftime to hold on to a 3-0 road win. Anyolo Makatiani opened the scoring in the tenth minute as he headed home a service from Kwabena Kwakwa. Three minutes later, Liam Tasker was brought down in the box and Kwakwa tucked away his spot kick for a 2-0 lead. Kwakwa connected on the end of some nice combination play along the top of the box to bury the third in the 21
st minute. Marc Borghi earned a penalty for Groton in the 23
rd minute but Alfonso DeVito sprung to his left and swatted the penalty past the post. The second half saw Groton press forward much more and Middlesex stayed organized through Lin, MacDougall, Tasker and Ojo. The final whistle marked a solid effort by both squads and a welcome start to the long weekend.
