Girls' Cross Country Sweeps at Governor's

10/10/2019 10:22:00 AM

It was a beautiful day for cross country, and the twenty Middlesex runners who made the journey to Governor's took full advantage of the cooler temperatures and picturesque scenery. The team took the first eight places in the tri meet, with senior captain Gabby Walsh leading the way and taking her third win of the season.  She was followed by a tight pack of senior Alene Fernandes, junior Meena Menon, junior Grace Hu, sophomore Annabelle Rogers, and junior Jillian Robertson.  They were followed not too far behind by sophomores Josie Silk and Mariam Craig.  As the first finisher of our second seven, Mariam earned another race win for the "JV" race-within-a-race, despite the fact that she finished ahead of the first varsity runner from both host Governor's and Tabor.  With the first seven places, the varsity secured the wins over Governor's and Tabor, and the JV winning score came from Mariam, junior Amelia Stevens (12th overall), senior Maya Sidhu (13th overall), junior Megan Ding (16th overall), and junior Grace Luettgen (17th overall).  Displacement points were earned by seniors Phoebe Lu and Maanasi Chintamani (18th and 19th).  All the Middlesex runners who traveled ran hard on the historic Governor's course, and Josie Silk, freshman Rosie Qin, senior Elizabeth Gatto, freshmen Mia Peng and Justine Lam earned PRs for their efforts.

The team looks forward to a short week of training in anticipation of facing off against the other Zebras of Groton next Friday before celebrating the fall long weekend.
