Girls' Varsity Squash Edged by Brooks

1/24/2019 9:42:00 AM

One day back from semester break and working their way back to midseason form, MX Girls' Squash played Brooks on Wednesday.  Brooks proved too strong at the top three positions, but the rest of the matches were closely fought and might have gone either way. MX prevailed at #6: sophomore Amelia Stevens won the first game easily, but her opponent began to take control of the T and won the second game 13-11. Amelia regained the T in the next game and began to use her hard, low backhand--this shot carried her to victory in the third and fourth games. At #7, sophomore Zoe Beede also opened with a strong game, but her opponent began to use deep crosses and volley drops effectively to take the second game 12-10. Zoe, however, found the range with her serves and forehand crosscourts to take games three and four and the victory. At #4 senior Margaret Rand, fresh off the plane, played well, but lost 3-1 in four very close games--her tight backhand drives and feathery drops proved not quite the equal of her opponent's hard crosscourts. The team learned a lot from the match as they head towards Nationals next weekend.
