MX Wrestling Sweeps Tabor and Lawrence

On Wednesday, January 9, the Middlesex Wrestling team traveled to Marion, Mass. for a tri-meet with Lawrence Academy and host Tabor Academy. Fantastic energy and focus led the group as they swept the tri-meet with two big league wins. Winning over Tabor by a score of 54 to 24, the team won nine matches with seven pins. Highlights included victories by Turner Bradrup, securing a first period pin, Peter Daichman getting the pin, Love Daley winning by pin, Connor Cross winning by pin, Diego Flores winning a close battle 6-5, Dante Gutbrod securing a first period pin, Alek Kebabjian winning by decision 7-5, Axel Romell pinning his opponent, and with forfeits gained by Julian Dai and Nick DeBruin.

The excitement and energy from the team showed as the momentum stayed with Middlesex after the pins by Turner and Peter. Love showed great speed and skill, mastering her opponent with some good technique. Outstanding match wrestler goes to Alek Kebabjian for his work and effort over the entire match to secure the win and eventual victory by Middlesex over a tough ISL opponent.

The second match was against Lawrence Academy and the Zebras won 66-12. After a few discrepancies in scoring during Peter Daichman's match, where both wrestlers scored 12 points at the end of regulation, the two went into overtime with a sudden death victory achieved by Peter with a takedown to win the match.

Peter Daichman wins the outstanding match wrestler for his determination and fortitude. Down points in the first and second periods, Peter remained focused and came back to secure the victory. Other MX victories included Daniel, Alene, Love, Connor, Jose, Alek, and Nick for a dominant performance of the ISL league opponent. Daniel showed grit and determination as he pinned his opponent in the first period. Alene was masterful in her domination at 120lb with a pin, Love continues to improve with a strong showing in her win by pin, and Connor Cross finished the day 2-0 with a solid decision 6-3.

In the upper weights, Jose Garza secured the win at 152. Alek Kebabjian pinned his opponent in 23 seconds, his second fastest time on the year. Also finishing the day undefeated was Nick DeBuin over-matching his opponent by pin. Eleven matches were wrestled in regulation, 9 victories and 4 forfeits as the team wrestled to a dominating victory, 66-12.

The team looks forward to hosting BB&N and Governor's on Saturday, January 12 in more ISL action.
