Middlesex hosted ISL rival St. Mark's on another beautiful fall afternoon. It was a battle of the halves on Saturday with Middlesex winning the first with excellent defensive plays and offensive opportunities. Ellery Winkler '19 scored the first of her two goals on the day with an excellent shot outside the 18 beyond the St. Mark's keeper after an excellent build-up starting back with keeper Olivia Clark '21. Moments later, Ellery sealed her second goal with a rebound inside the 18 to put the Zebras up 2-0, but St. Mark's would prove relentless, countering quickly before the end of the first half to close the gap 2-1. Middlesex came out a little slow in the second half with St. Mark's on the attack forcing the Zebras back on their heels, capitalizing on loss of possessions and team defensive breakdowns to go up 4-2 by the end of the half. Middlesex will continue to work on developing this young, but mighty, team together for a full 80 minutes against another ISL rival Tabor Academy on Wednesday September 26th down in Marion, Mass.
