On a crisp and seasonable autumn afternoon, the boys of Middlesex continued their blistering start to the cross country season, with the varsity picking up three wins to remain undefeated and the junior varsity winning two out of three on the home course.
Sophomore Caleb Gartner led the way for the Zebras, cruising to the finish in 17:21 with junior co-captain Justin O'Toole close behind. Freshman Cooper Austen and senior co-captain Connor Page held off the fourth runner from Tabor, while an inspired and tactical race from senior Jack Audett brought him to the finish ahead of the Tabor number five to seal a 27-30 victory over the visiting Seawolves, who were without the services of defending ISL champion Aly Hussein for the weekend. Junior Jack Starobin and sophomore Andrew Harris rounded out the top seven for Middlesex and added displacement points to the scoreline. Middlesex also won 20-43 over Thayer and 15-50 over BB&N.
Sophomore David Latham won the junior varsity race in 19:29, laying down a devastating and decisive 5:55 final mile to finish thirty seconds ahead of the front runner from Tabor. Senior Sam Ferrone finished in the second spot for Middlesex, with sophomores Cannon Caspar, Gavin Cassidy and Trent Loughery rounding out the top five. Senior John Fashek and sophomore Zan Danoff also scored displacement points as the Zebras picked up 15-50 victories over Thayer and BB&N, while falling to Tabor 35-23.
The Middlesex harriers will hit the road this weekend, traveling to St. Mark's School for a quad meet against Belmont Hill and Lawrence Academy
