On an unseasonably warm yet resplendent early fall afternoon, the Middlesex boys cross country team raced to a double victory over the visitors from Rivers School, with both the varsity and junior varsity teams triumphing and a Middlesex runner finishing first in both contests.
On the varsity side, junior co-captain Justin O'Toole shattered his home course PR on his way to a decisive first-place finish in 17:27. He was followed closely by sophomore Caleb Gartner, with senior co-captain Connor Page, freshman Cooper Austen and junior Jack Starobin also scoring for the varsity. Senior Jack Audett and sophomore Andrew Harris finished well ahead of the third runner from Rivers to round out the top seven for Middlesex and seal a 17-44 win for the Zebras.
Sophomore Mac Hadden won the junior varsity race in 20:14, leading a pack of six Middlesex teammates as the JV scored a decisive 15-50 result. Sophomore David Latham, senior Sam Ferrone, sophomore Gavin Cassidy and freshman Preston Taylor accounted for the rest of the scoring, with junior Logan Tonra finishing sixth in his first cross-country race and sophomore Connor Cross finishing seventh.
Middlesex returns to the home course this Saturday for the first quad meet of the season against ISL foes BB&N, Thayer, and Tabor.
