The Middlesex School Girls' Varsity Tennis team lost its match against Groton 0 - 15 Thursday afternoon. Due to the predicted inclement weather, the athletic staff made the call early to move the match indoors. Groton's indoor conditions were much much more agreeable in contrast with the hot and humid weather outside.
Led by senior captain Helen Lasry, our team was down 2 out of its top 4 players, and so every girl on the team from #3 singles down had to play up two positions. Groton's strong lineup outmatched our squad from top to bottom. Margaret Rand '19 played a competitive match at #6 singles and fought her way into a tiebreaker in the first set but was ultimately outlasted. Spirits remained high, however, as Middlesex's veteran players commented on how they saw the elevated level of play as a chance to face a good challenge and work on areas of their game.
The girls will put in three focused practices before their next match this Wednesday, May 9th against Pomfret.
