The Zebras played exceptionally well Friday from the seniors to all three freshmen on the team. Middlesex's senior Marina Bevacqua scored first off of great ball movement and two minutes later, Lucie Gildehaus set Lizzie Cunningham up for the shooting space which Lizzie executed perfectly and gave the team a 2-0 lead. Next, juniors Alex Fehnel and Clarissa Hurley each notched a goal and the Zebras saw a solid 4-0 lead with 13:07 remaining in the half. The scoring continued with senior Caroline Hughes taking a beautiful feed from her classmate Sophie MacKegian and Fehnel setting up Gildehaus. Maddie MacMaster added a goal and sophomore Lizzie Ayer rounded out the half with a well-placed shot. Meanwhile, in the defensive end, seniors Caroline Silk and Caroline Fischer led the defensive unit of sophomores Carly Tilson, Daisy Boynton, and Nico Roark to a first half shut out. Doubling, sliding, ajaxing, and ground-balling, these athletes held strong and the St. George's attack could not get into the 8 meter arc. In the second half, St. George's came out strong and notched the first goal just seconds into the half. The Zebras answered with three goals in the second half thanks to the work of Hayden Monahan (2 goals), Bevacqua, and 2 assists by MacKeigan. A true testament to the growth and depth of this team, freshman Olivia Clark, Sophia Pop, and Izzy Allieri all made significant defensive plays in the second half to keep the St. George's attackers at bay, and Anna "Ham" Simmons made her debut in the midfield, making solid plays at both ends of the field.
The win sealed Middlesex's second consecutive ISL Championship!
