Girls' Varsity Tennis Defeats BB&N, 14-1

5/14/2018 9:17:00 AM

The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team stepped back into the ISL Saturday to win its match against BB&N 14 - 1. Rain pushed the match indoors.

From top to bottom, the Zebras single lineup outplayed the Knights in consistency, power, placement, and speed. Indeed the team's hard work this season to develop as players was showcased in both the way they played and the results. Senior captain Helen Lasry was off to a bit of a slow start -- down 3 - 5 in the first set. She successfully redirected the momentum and fought her way back up to a tiebreaker. While she did not capture the point, she showed remarkable grit and determination on the court. Fortunately, she had found a better rhythm for going into the second set, which she handily took 6 - 2. From there, both sets were captured by Maud McCole '19 at #2, Madeline Graham '18 at #3, Averill Emery '20 at #4, Parker Firestone '21 at #5, and Jessica Andrews '21 at #6, who all played confident and focused matches.

Middlesex clinched the match before heading into doubles. Even so, doubles matches were close and competitive with quick, aggressive points. Teams Lasry and McCole at #1 and Graham and Emery at #2 fought for each point and won their sets. The #3 doubles match was forfeited by BB&N.

The team will put in two focused practices before facing Brooks on Wednesday here at home.
