Girls' Varsity Tennis Battles Pomfret

5/14/2018 11:27:00 AM

The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team hosted Pomfret for a competitive out-of-league match that went down to doubles to be determined. While the Zebras were off to a strong start, they ultimately lost the match 6 - 9. It was a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the low 70s.

Headed by captain Helen Lasry '18 at #1 singles, Middlesex captured 4 out of 6 of the first sets and had a strong lead moving into the second sets. Lasry, fellow senior Madeline Graham '18, Averill Emery '20, and Jessica Andrews '21 all won their first sets. Emery also won her second set handily with superior consistency, careful placement, and varied shots.

Our team was down 5 - 7 heading into doubles and would need to win all 3 doubles to secure the overall match. Lasry and McCole have made steady strides this season in their doubles game and showed their good progress on the court to win a close match 8 - 6. Unfortunately, Pomfret outlasted our other teams to take the next two points and win the overall match.

It was a good experience for the our players, as they worked to control what they could control. The team looks forward to playing BB&N this Saturday, again on our home courts.
