Girls' Lacrosse Tops Exeter, 15-5

5/14/2018 10:38:00 AM

The Zebras came out with tremendous poise in the first 10 minutes of play against non-league rival Phillips Exeter.  Middlesex gained control of the ball off the draw initially, but they were forced to hold the ball with patience due to a very sharp and athletic Exeter defense.  The attack moved the ball with patience and eventually hit the back of the net at the 19:29 mark with a well-placed shot by Lucie Gildehaus.  Marina Bevacqua followed with a rocket free position shot just there minutes later and the Zebras were off and running.  Exeter answered at the 14 minute mark, but Middlesex moved the ball again on attack and the unit found Alex Fehnel for the third goal of the day.  While Exeter brought the score to 2-3 off a feed inside, it would be their last for the next ten minutes of play.  The Middlesex defense stiffened and the offense executed, leading to four Middlesex goals by MacMaster, Hughes, Gildy, and Marina.  With an 8-3 lead at the half, the Zebras continued to play sharp and focused lacrosse, scoring 7 goals in the second half.  The defense stymied the Exeter attack on many occasions notching several caused turnovers and only allowing two goals in the second half.  With seven scorers and 8 players earning caused turnovers, it was a tremendous team effort today.
