The Zebras brought both poise and grit in a battle against a talented Rivers squad. Middlesex controlled the game, possessing for much of the first half, resulting in a strong lead at the 10 minute mark. With good ball movement by all of the attackers, the team worked for strong scoring opportunities and finished the play on several occasions. However at the 8 minute mark, the Zebras became a bit casual and allowed three quick Rivers goals, bringing the score to 6-3. After a slight adjustment, the defensive unit came out firing and stopped Rivers' offense for the remainder of the half. In the second half, Rivers capitalized on some turnovers and brought the score to 6-5 at the 19 minute mark. Middlesex, however, rallied and went on a four goal scoring streak on terrific and well-executed goals by Bevacqua, Gildehaus, Fehnel, and MacMaster. The defense shut out the Rivers' offense for 19 minutes, once again, under the leadership of Fischer and Silk. MacKeigan and Hughes cleaned up in draws and ground balls and Hurley heroically held the ball in several crashes and triple teams in the second half. Sophomores Tilson, Boynton, and Roark were relentless in the defense and Roark had the play of the game with a one-handed interception to end it.
