Rivet '19 Nets Hatrick as Boys' Varsity Hockey Rolls 4-1 Over Roxbury Latin

2/21/2018 12:44:00 PM

Junior forward Alex Rivet continued his torrid scoring pace by figuring in on all four goals in a very hard fought game against Roxbury Latin Monday evening. The game, played at home, was a make-up of a snow cancelation.

Rivet scored early in the first period off a faceoff to the left of the Roxbury Latin goal. Freshman Kyle Heath won the draw cleanly and Rivet's wrist shot found its way to the back of the net through a screen.

In the second period, the visitors got on the board on the powerplay off a nice pass to the back post at 15:14. But Middlesex responded with a power play goal of its own at 17:23 as Rivet was set up by Anthony Mandravellos with second assist to Tyler Hughey.

After a scramble in front of the Middlesex net, Rivet picked up a turnover and went on a 2 on 1 rush that he finished off with a rocket to the top corner of the net.

With the Roxbury Latin goalie pulled, Middlesex picked up a loose puck just inside the defensive blue line where Rivet head manned the puck to senior Harrison Clark to send him in alone to seal the victory with an empty net goal with 10 seconds remaining. Middlesex kept its playoff hopes alive with the win.

The team hosts ISL rival Groton on Wed. Feb 21st in their last home game of the season where they will conduct senior appreciation festivities.
